Melanated TV — Data Deletion & Privacy Rights Policy

At Melanated TV, operated by CrownThrive, LLC, we respect your privacy and are committed to handling your personal data with care, transparency, and security. This policy explains your rights to request deletion of your data, how we verify and process those requests, what is deleted (and what may be retained by law), and answers to common questions.


Scope & Definitions

This policy covers personal data we process for the Melanated TV service (web, mobile, and TV apps). “Personal data” means information that identifies or can reasonably be linked to you (e.g., name, email, identifiers, usage tied to your account). “Delete” means to remove personal data from active systems and, where applicable, from backups after their lifecycle completes, or to irreversibly anonymize it so it can no longer identify you.


1. Your Right to Data Deletion

Consistent with global privacy laws—including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, LGPD, and other applicable regulations—you may request deletion of your personal data we control. Once verified, we will delete your data unless we have a legal basis or obligation to retain specific records (see Section 5).


2. Information We Delete

Upon approval and verification, we permanently delete or anonymize:

  • Personal Information: Name, email address, phone number, user identifiers.
  • Account Data: Subscription details, account status/roles, and internal account notes.
  • Preferences & Activity: Watchlists, favorites, continue-watching, and recommendation history.
  • Usage Data (Account-Tied): Device info, IPs, session/activity logs linked to your account.
  • Support Records: Tickets and attachments stored in our help systems (unless retention is required by law).

Important: Deletion is permanent. Your account is closed and cannot be recovered.


3. How to Submit a Data Deletion Request

  1. Email: Send a request to contact@crownthrive.com with the subject line: “Data Deletion Request”.
  2. Include:
    • Your full name
    • Your registered Melanated TV email address
    • Reason for deletion (optional)
  3. Verification: To protect your account, we may ask for additional verification (e.g., code sent to your email). Authorized agents (where permitted by law) must provide valid authorization and proof of identity.
  4. Cancellation vs. Deletion: If you only want to stop future billing but keep your account and history, choose Cancel Subscription in Account Settings instead of deletion.

4. Processing Timeline

  • Standard Window: We process verified deletion requests within 30 days.
  • Complex/High-Volume Cases: If more time is needed, we will notify you and may extend as permitted by law (e.g., up to 60–90 days under certain regimes).
  • Confirmation: We will email you once deletion (or anonymization) is complete.

5. Exceptions & Limited Retention

Some data may be retained despite a deletion request when necessary to:

  • Comply with Law: Tax, audit, accounting, sanctions, anti-money-laundering (AML/KYC) obligations.
  • Resolve Transactions/Disputes: Chargebacks, refunds, fraud investigations, or rights enforcement.
  • Security & Abuse Prevention: Limited records to detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or unauthorized use.
  • Contractual/Operational Necessity: Logs necessary for system integrity retained for a limited period, then purged or anonymized.

6. Impact of Deletion

  • Your account is permanently closed and cannot be restored.
  • Any remaining subscription time is forfeited; no refunds are issued for deletion-triggered closure.
  • All personalized settings, recommendations, watchlists, and viewing progress are erased.
  • You must create a new account to rejoin in the future.

7. Payment Provider Records

While we delete account-linked billing data from our systems, payment processors (e.g., PayPal, Stripe) may retain limited transaction records as required by financial regulations and their audit obligations. These records are stored securely and are not controlled by us. You may contact the payment provider directly for questions about their retention.


8. Backups, Logs & Anonymization

  • Backups: Data already captured in encrypted backups before your request is not actively used and is deleted on a rolling basis when backups expire per our retention schedule.
  • Operational Logs: Certain system logs may be retained temporarily for security and reliability, then purged or irreversibly anonymized.
  • Anonymization: Where outright deletion would impair platform integrity, we convert personal data to an irreversible, non-identifying form.

You will receive a confirmation email once we complete deletion or anonymization. Keep that email for your records.

No. Deletion is permanent. You may create a new account in the future if you wish to return.

Q3. What happens if I request deletion mid-billing cycle?

Your subscription ends immediately and remaining time is forfeited. No refunds are issued for deletion-triggered closure.

Q4. Do you delete my payment history?

We delete our platform’s billing records tied to your account. Payment processors (PayPal, Stripe) may retain transaction records per law.

Q5. Can I withdraw a deletion request?

You can withdraw while we are verifying your identity. After deletion is finalized, it cannot be reversed.

Q6. Is deleting my account the same as canceling my subscription?

No. Cancellation stops future charges but keeps your account and history. Deletion permanently removes your account and data.

Q7. What about cookies and device data?

Deletion removes account-tied data. To clear device/browser data (cookies, cache, app storage), use your browser or device settings.

Q8. What if I use an authorized agent (e.g., under CCPA/CPRA)?

We require proof of authorization and identity verification of both the consumer and the agent to process the request.

Q9. How do you handle requests from minors or parents/guardians?

Where permitted by law, parents or legal guardians may submit requests on behalf of minors with appropriate proof of authority.

Q10. What if I disagree with your decision?

You may appeal by replying to our decision email with “Appeal” in the subject. We’ll review and respond consistent with applicable law.
